At Netherton Park Neighbourhood Centre, our Youth Project is all about giving young people a space where they can just be themselves. It’s relaxed, welcoming, and supportive, somewhere to unwind after school, meet new people, and feel comfortable being part of a group.
Every session is completely free and built around what young people enjoy. There’s no rigid structure or pressure to take part in anything they don’t fancy. Instead, activities grow from their ideas, interests, and moods on the day. Some sessions are busy and creative, others are calm and chilled, but there’s always something to get involved in.
You’ll usually find a mix of arts and crafts, Lego, board games, creative challenges, and casual group chats. These activities aren’t just about passing the time, they help young people build confidence, try new things, and connect with others in a natural way.

Young people can come along to one session or make it part of their weekly routine, whatever feels right for them. A big part of the Youth Project is giving young people the chance to express themselves. They explore friendships and future goals, values, and creative interests.
Food is another favourite part of the sessions. Young people get involved in cooking simple meals and snacks together, trying out different herbs, spices, and vegetables along the way. It’s a fun, relaxed way to build confidence, learn practical skills, and enjoy sitting down together to eat and chat. Above all, the Youth Project is about inclusion and belonging.
Vision boards, artwork, and storyboards often come out of these sessions, and their work is displayed around the centre so the space truly feels like theirs. It’s a safe, supportive environment where young people can make friends, feel listened to, and spend time somewhere that feels positive and welcoming. Our staff are always around for encouragement, support, or just a friendly chat. New faces are always welcome. Whether someone is chatty and outgoing or a bit quieter and finding their feet, there’s space for everyone at Netherton Park.
