Netherton Park Neighbourhood Centre’s Organisational Structure

Sue is a local resident. Sue has been an active volunteer for the past 10 years, assisting with play groups, play schemes, residentials and trips.  She leads on collecting payment deposits from the Netherton Park for the Sefton Credit Union, enabling people to save and reduce the risk of going into debt especially with loan sharks. Sue is a mother, grandmother and has fostered several children over the years and has extensive safeguarding expertise.  Sue was born in Liverpool but moved to South Africa when she was 16 years, she returned over 15 years ago with her family.  Sue trained as a nurse but is now works in carehome supporting physically and mentally ill people.  Sue has many skills and life experiences to offer the organisation.

Dawn works as a taxi driver in Sefton and has volunteered with the centre for 22 years as driver for residentials/trips and is one of our callers at the weekly bingo session. Her grandmother was one of the former founders of the organisation.  She is a qualified level 3 play worker with extensive youth work experience.  Dawn, who was from the estate, offers insights to the past and present with knowledge of the area and has good interpersonal skills with people.

Steve is a father and grandfather, he assists the centre manager with funding applications and updating policies and procedures inline with up to date legislation – for over 8 years.  He is a retired Data Base Manager for Liverpool City Council’s Social Services, with public sector management systems experience. Steve has extensive management and HR experience from his public sector background.

Councillor Ian Maher

Trustee

Local Councillor and Leader of Sefton Council.  He has been involved with the organisation for many years. Ian offers a wide range of support and brings knowledge and wisdom to the board of trustees gained from his extensive public service.  His expertise is in local government funding and family services and assists many of our programme developments with strategic thinking. Ian has been a Councillor for nearly 26 years during which time he has been the Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Deputy Leader of Sefton Labour Group and since May 2015 the Leader of Labour Group and Council Leader. Ian was appointed as the Liverpool City Region Portfolio Lead for Employment and Skills in February 2016 for 4 years and in May 2020 was appointed as the Liverpool City Region Portfolio Lead for Culture, Tourism and the Visitor Economy. He has over 30 years’ experience at a managerial level in parts of the construction industry, has sat on many community boards and has been a school governor. 

Sandra has just joined the board but has been involved with the organisation for over 10 years in several ways. She is the former manager for Netherton Children’s Centre working in partnership to deal with the many issues affecting families and children in our communities.  Her new governance role is a coordinator for the Early Help Team; she is an expert in safeguarding and family support work, with extensive knowledge of commissioning and legislation. 

“I have over 30 years’ experience working within children’s services in a variety of roles. My current role involves working with a range of multi-agency partners to ensure children and families receive the right support from the right service. Safeguarding is a priority for all organisations and it is the responsibility of all trustees and I can use my knowledge, skills and experience to provide advice and support in respect of safeguarding matters.” 

Mr Tom Spring

Trustee

Tom is our most recent member to our trustees. He is a newly elected councillor for Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council, he represents Netherton & Orrell Ward in which our organisation sits.  
He has excellent local knowledge of the local community, its needs and issues.  Tom is only young and brings enthusiasm and experience with working with children and young people from his experience when working in a youth 
settings.  

Mr Chris Hoey

Trustee

Chris is a local Dad and Grandad; he is a full-time career for his daughter who has down syndrome.  Chris supports his eldest daughter with her 3 children, who all have ASD.   He volunteers as one of our drivers for residentials and trips with children and young people.  Every week he organisers activities and snacks for R Space club, organising fundraising events to cover the cost of trips/activities for the group. The group targets young adults with additional needs, sessions consist of social, physical, and creative activities to enrich their independence and personal development. 
He has a great understanding of the organisation’s governance and everyday delivery of the organisation services and activities.
