Christmas joy arrived early in Netherton this year as Father Christmas toured the neighbourhood of Bootle over three festive days, bringing smiles, waves, and a sprinkle of magic to families right outside their front doors. Young people and parents went outside to say hello to him, and we could see what joy and sense of community events like this bring.
Instead of stopping at just a few streets, Santa travelled through a wide stretch of Netherton, including familiar places such as Parkfield Avenue, Abbeystead Avenue, Longridge Drive, Marina Crescent, and the Goals Estate. Each area had its own special moment, and every street welcomed him with excitement and festive cheer.
Each stop brought something joyful, young people calling out to him from their windows, neighbours smiling and waving to one another, and families gathering on their doorsteps to share a moment of festive fun. Even in the winter chill, the atmosphere felt warm and welcoming.
This year, the response was incredible. On Wednesday we raised £268, and on Thursday we raised £384 thanks to the generosity of the community. We’re so grateful to everyone who came out, supported us, and helped keep the festive spirit alive.
What made the tour so special wasn’t just seeing the big man in red, but the way it brought people together in simple, heart-warming ways. Parents said how lovely it was to watch their young people light up when they spotted Santa coming down the street, and the whole neighbourhood felt that little bit brighter for the rest of the day.
Meeting Santa during these trips has turned into a seasonal highlight for families who might not have the opportunity to do so anywhere else. It’s moments like these that make our community feel close, cared for, and full of festive spirit.
And we’re not done yet, Santa will be out one final time this year on Thursday 18th December, ready to spread even more Christmas cheer. He will be visiting Chester Avenue first, then making his way to St Asaph.
